MAYLONG

For my Australian friends and family, there is a phenomenon in Prince Rupert known as "Maylong." This refers to the act of spending the May long-weekend camping, partying and getting wasted at places outside of the immediate area, like Extew, Lakelse, and so on. Young people are particularly fond of this activity. For those of us too long in the tooth for wild partying and rustic living conditions, Maylong is an opportunity to rest up on a long weekend. THis year, the Rupert Reunion is back and I have volunteered to work at the reunion on the bar on Saturday night. Since volunteering myself, I have come down with a nasty cold. Certainly not looking forward to bartending.

Foster Parenting

Had a great day - Larry went to Kitimat golfing at the crack of dawn. I got my teeth cleaned, did the laundry and shopping and had a run. It is another stellar day here.

Then I picked up a new mommy cat and her 5 babies from the SPCA. We will foster them for a while. They are only a few days old - still have umbilicial cords attached and no eyes open. Three black ones, one grey and one tabby like mom. She had 6 kittens but one died at birth. I set them up in the basement and mom seems happy with the arrangements. Again, once I figure out the photo business, I will post pictures of them. So far Stripey and Coco are blissfully unaware that there are others in the basement. This is a good thing.

Skip's Feast

Today is the retirement and naming feast for Skip. Some of our students and staff have worked hard to put this together. There will be dancing and speeches and food. I think I may be expected to speak...Nervewracking... But it is a beautiful day out there and will still be so later tonight when we get outside. Hopefully I will get some pics and learn how to post them here...

Running in May

The champagne party was fine. Except that I spilled wine all over Elizabeth. I have just come back from running Butze Rapids Trail. It was beautiful out there...always clears out the bad karma from the day...

My Open House

Today I am having an open house kind of. To drink champagne and celebrate getting my new job. I'd better get the place cleaned up and drag out the champagne glasses. I'll report on the success or otherwise of the event later...
